How to choose the right e-commerce platform for your store in Egypt
"Which e-commerce platform is best?" has no single answer, and anyone who gives you one is usually selling something. The answer changes with who you sell to, how they pay, and where they take delivery.
This is not a comparison of names. It is the set of questions that lets you choose for yourself.
First: how do your customers pay?
If most of your orders are cash on delivery — the norm in Egypt — the platform has to treat cash as a primary method rather than an afterthought. That means calculating the collection fee, tracking your money with the courier, and being able to tell you when it will reach you.
A platform built for a card-paying market will give you everything except exactly that.
Second: where do you ship?
Selling inside Egypt means you need a platform wired into a local courier that prices by governorate. Selling abroad means something else entirely — multi-currency pricing, customs, international carriers.
They are different problems, and nobody solves both well.
Third: who works in the dashboard?
If you are the one adding products and answering customers, the dashboard needs to be in your language. An English-only panel means translating in your head every day, and mistakes live in that translation.
Fourth: what does the bill actually come to?
There are two pricing shapes:
- A flat subscription — you pay the same whether you sell a lot or a little.
- Subscription plus commission — your bill grows with your success.
The difference compounds. At 100,000 EGP of monthly sales, a 2% commission is 2,000 EGP a month — for no additional service.
When a global platform is the better choice
There is no need for bias here. If you sell digital products to customers outside Egypt, need specialised integrations that do not exist locally, or your whole team works in English, a global platform will be more comfortable.
A local platform matters when the market itself is local.
