How to sell digital products on Hekana
4 min read

This guide is for a merchant selling something nobody ships: a code, a gift card, a course or a file. The steps are short, and all of them happen in your dashboard.
1. What counts as a digital product
- Gift cards and codes
- Courses
- Files
- E-books
- Licences
If a courier has to bring it to the customer's door, it is not digital.
2. Create the product and choose how it is delivered
- In your dashboard, open Products, then add a new product or open an existing one.
- Fill in the name, price and photos as with any product.
- Turn on the Digital product switch.
- Under How is it delivered?, pick one of three:
- I send it myself — you send the code or file from the order page.
- Codes — sent automatically — each buyer gets one code per item by email once their payment is confirmed.
- File — download link sent automatically — each buyer gets their own download link by email once their payment is confirmed.
- Save.
A digital product carries no shipping fee and does not ask the customer for an address.
3. Load your codes, or upload your file
Codes. After saving the product, open its Codes tab and press Add codes. Paste your codes one per line, or upload a CSV (the first column of each row is read). Press Check codes to see how many are valid, duplicates or invalid before anything is saved; duplicates and invalid lines are never added. If the product has options, add codes to each option separately.
- Codes are stored encrypted, and appear hidden in the list. Revealing one is recorded under your name.
- The product's stock is the number of unused codes, and it updates by itself.
- You get a notification when available codes run low (at 5 by default).
- When you add codes, any paid order that was waiting for one is sent at once.
File. Upload it on the product page: PDF, ZIP, EPUB, Word/Excel/PowerPoint, MP3, MP4 or an image, up to 500 MB. The file stays private. Each buyer's download link works for 7 days and allows a limited number of downloads.
I send it myself. Once the order is paid, open it from Orders, send the code by email or WhatsApp from the order page, then press Mark as delivered.
4. The rules that protect you
On the Codes tab of any codes product, under Digital product rules, you can change:
- Max quantity per order — 5 by default.
- Review orders above — a paid order above this amount (5,000 EGP by default) waits for your approval before anything is sent. You can approve it, or reject it with a reason; rejecting cancels the order and refunds the online payment.
- Alert me when available codes reach — 5 by default.
Orders waiting for your approval, or for a code because the codes ran out, appear at the top of Orders.
5. Payment: online payment is required
Cash on delivery is not available on an order where every item is digital, because there is nothing to deliver. Your store needs an online payment method, such as card or mobile wallet.
To turn it on: Settings → Payment Settings, then in the Online payments section switch on Enable online payments and choose cards, wallets or both. Online payments are available on paid plans. More detail in the online payment methods guide.
If your store sells only digital products, you can publish it without setting up a carrier or a pickup address.
6. What the customer sees
When everything in the cart is digital, checkout asks for three things only:
- Name
- Phone number
- Email, which is required
No address, and no shipping fee. Before placing an order that includes a digital product, the customer ticks a box confirming they understand a code or file can't be refunded once it's shown.
Once the payment is confirmed, the customer finds their code (with a copy button) or their download button on the payment success page, on their order page, and in the email we send them. If the order is waiting for your approval or for a code, those pages say so, and the code arrives by email when it is ready.
If the cart mixes a digital product with a physical one, the order checks out as a normal order with shipping and an address.
7. Tips
- Name options clearly. Put the value and the country in the option name, such as "500 EGP — Egypt" or "50 USD — US", so nobody buys the wrong card.
- Keep the code bank topped up. Stock follows the unused codes, so a product with none left can't be bought until you add more.
- Write a refund policy for codes. A code that has been shown may already have been used. Say plainly when you refund and when you do not. See the returns policy guide.
