Your first product is the best test of everything: photos, price and shipping. This guide walks you through the Add Product page in the dashboard in the order you will meet the fields.
Before you open the page, get three things ready: the product photos, the price you worked out from its real cost, and the weight of one item in grams. If you have not worked out the price yet, read pricing products in the Egyptian market first.
The steps
-
Open the add-product page. From the dashboard sidebar open the Products section and choose Add Product.
-
Pick a template if it fits (optional). At the top, Start from template: clothing, shoes, electronics, food and drink, jewellery, digital product, or blank. A template fills in the options (such as size and colour) for you, and you can cancel it or start from scratch. The Digital product template is for a file, code or service with no shipping.
-
Write the product information. Product name is required. Use a clear name with the words a customer would search for. In the Arabic description write a short description that appears on the product page. There is an auto-fill from the Arabic name button if you want help. The English version is created automatically from the Arabic when you save, and you can edit it yourself if you want.
-
Set the price. Price is required and must be greater than zero. If you are running a discount, enter the Compare at Price, and it appears as a crossed-out price next to the current one.
-
Enter stock and weight. Stock is required. Enter the available quantity, or 0 if you have none. SKU is optional. Weight (grams) must be set before you offer the product for sale, because the shipping price is calculated by weight.
-
Upload the images. Choose Add image. The first image is the product's main image, so order them accordingly. Wait for the uploads to finish before you save.
-
Add options if the product has sizes or colours. Turn on This product has multiple options, enter the option name (for example, Size) and its values (each value followed by Enter). After saving, you manage the variants from the product's edit page and set stock for each choice. You can also add a size chart to the product.
-
Choose the category. Pick a category that helps customers find the product. You can also mark the product as Featured product if you want it in the featured products section of your storefront.
-
Choose the status and save. Publish Now shows the product in the store straight away, and Save as Draft keeps it hidden until you have reviewed it. Then press Save Product.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it ask for the weight?
Because the shipping price is calculated by weight, and the dashboard asks you to set it before you offer the product for sale.
What do I enter if I have no stock?
Enter 0. The stock field is required, but 0 is accepted.
How do I show a discount?
Put the current price in Price and the older price in Compare at Price. The older one appears crossed out next to the current one.
Do I have to write the description in English?
No. The English version is created automatically from the Arabic when you save, and you can edit it if you like.
Which image shows first?
The first image is the product's main image.
Can I save the product without publishing it?
Yes, choose Save as Draft.
After your first product
Every product after this is easier, but the product page itself is what sells. The product page guide explains what is worth reviewing on it. If you want the product to show up in search, see e-commerce SEO basics. More on the catalogue feature page.
